Pirates sign outfielder Jake Marisnick

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed outfielder Jake Marisnick to a Major League contract. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, General Manager Ben Cherington.

Marisnick, 31, attended spring training this year with the Texas Rangers as a non-roster invitee and went 4-for-25 with a homer and four RBI in 10 games.

Marisnick split the 2021 season between the Cubs and Padres, making a total of 52 appearances in center field, 20 in left field and two in right field with the two teams. Marisnick’s 75 defensive runs saved since the start of the 2013 season rank eighth among all MLB outfielders in that span.

Selected by Toronto in the third round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, Marisnick made his Major League debut with the Miami Marlins in 2013. He spent parts of six seasons (2014-2019) with Houston prior to spending the 2020 campaign with the New York Mets.

In his Major League career, Marisnick has made 601 appearances in center field, 71 in left field and 55 in right field. He appeared in a career-high 133 games with the Astros in 2015 and hit a career-high 16 home runs in 2017.

Marisnick will be wearing uniform #41.
