The Yankees have invited INF/OF Phillip Evans (No. 39), INF Ronald Guzmán (No. 29) and OF Ryan LaMarre (No. 68) to Major League spring training.
Evans, 29, has batted .231 (71-for-307) with 34R, 9 doubles, 6HR, 27RBI and 39BB in 121 games over parts of four Major League seasons with the New York Mets (2017-18) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2020-21). In 2021, the right-handed batter hit .206 (44-for-214) with 23R, 5 doubles, 5HR, 16RBI and 28BB in 76 games with the Pirates. The Whittier, Calif., native has appeared defensively at third base (31G/26GS), first base (22G/16GS), left field (18G/15GS), right field (16G/13GS) and second base (4G/3GS) in his career.
Guzmán, 27, has batted .227 (167-for-737) with 91R, 39 doubles, 3 triples, 31HR, 104RBI and 73BB in 243 games over parts of four Major League seasons (2018-21), all with the Texas Rangers. The left-handed batter was limited to just seven games with Texas in 2021 due to a right knee meniscus cartilage tear, going 1-for-16 (.063) with 1HR, 1RBI and 1BB. The La Vega, D.R., native has appeared defensively at first base (226G/203GS) and left field (2G/1GS) in his career.
LaMarre, 33, has batted .232 (57-for-246) with 24R, 11 doubles, 6HR, 25RBI and 17BB in 129 games over parts of six Major League seasons with the Cincinnati Reds (2015), Boston Red Sox (2016), Oakland Athletics (2017), Chicago White Sox (2018), Minnesota Twins (2018-19) and Yankees (2021). The right-handed hitter has appeared at all three outfield positions in his career, playing 65 games in center field, 37 games in left field and 13 games in right field. In nine games with the in Yankees 2021, he went 4-for-21 (.190) with 3R, 2HR, 4RBI, 2BB and 1SB. He spent most of the season with Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre, batting .277 (57-for-206) with 27R, 13 doubles, 2 triples, 6HR, 34RBI, 27BB and 14SB in 60 games. The Royal Oak, Mich., native was originally selected by the Reds in the second round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Michigan.
The Yankees now have 17 non-roster invitees, including six pitchers (one left-hander, five right-handers), four catchers, four outfielders and three infielders.
