This will be the second meeting between Los Angeles FC and Inter Miami after LAFC beat Miami, 1-0, in Miami’s inaugural MLS match in March 2020. Carlos Vela scored the game’s only goal in the 44th minute.
Inter Miami’s 5-1 defeat to Austin FC on Saturday was the fifth time the Herons have lost a match by at least four goals. Only FC Cincinnati (6 times) has suffered more four-plus goal defeats since Miami joined MLS in 2020.
Los Angeles FC has never lost one of its first two games of the season, a streak that continued thanks to a stoppage time equalizer against Portland on Sunday. LAFC has lost a match in the opening three weeks of a season just once in club history, falling to the Galaxy in the third match of the 2018 campaign.
Inter Miami’s first goal of the season, scored by Leonardo Campana, was set up by Gonzalo Higuaín. The assist was one of an MLS-high 11 chances created by Higuaín in the first two games of the 2022 season after averaging just 1.2 chances created per match (36 in 30 games) in 2021.
Mamadou Fall scored the equalizing goal on LAFC’s 25th and final shot of the match on Sunday against Portland. It was the league-leading 11th time LAFC has attempted 25 or more shots in a match since joining MLS in 2018. They scored at least once in all 11 matches in which they’ve attempted at least 25 shots.
