* For the first time in over 30 years, the NHL has a new “Ironman” as Keith Yandle passed Doug Jarvis for sole possession of the longest consecutive games played streak in League history.* Sidney Crosby collected the 155th three-point game of his NHL career, while Joe Pavelski posted multiple points for the fourth time in his last five appearances.
* Colorado can claim its 17th consecutive home win as the Avalanche welcome the Bruins to Ball Arena Wednesday.
YANDLE SETS NHL RECORD FOR MOST CONSECUTIVE GAMES PLAYED
Flyers defenseman Keith Yandle skated in his 965th consecutive regular-season game and passed Doug Jarvis (964 GP from Oct. 8, 1975–Oct. 10, 1987) for sole possession of the longest “Ironman” streak in League history.
* Jarvis and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman congratulated Yandle Tuesday, while Philadelphia and his former teams Arizona, New York and Florida all took to social media to praise the defenseman during his record-setting night.
* Yandle’s streak has spanned more than 12 years, four franchises and parts of 14 seasons – a stretch that has seen him cross paths with many League legends such as Wayne Gretzky, Shane Doan, Henrik Lundqvist, Martin St. Louis and Jaromir Jagr. Read more in the latest #NHLStats Pack, which also includes a “By The Numbers” look at Yandle’s run.
OTHER VETERANS CROSBY, PAVELSKI POWER STARS, PENGUINS TO WINS
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby (1-2—3) and Stars forward Joe Pavelski (2-2—4) each had at least three points in victories:
* Crosby capped his three-point night – which included a highlight-reel assist on a goal by Bryan Rust (1-2—3) – with the game winner as Pittsburgh overcame three separate deficits to defeat Arizona and extend its winning streak to six contests. The Penguins (27-10-5, 59 points) occupy second place in the Metropolitan Division and moved within one point of the first-place Rangers (28-11-4, 60 points), who were idle Tuesday.
* Pavelski (19-29—48 in 40 GP) factored on four goals, including each of the Stars’ tallies in the opening 15 seconds of the first and second period, to reach 48 points on the season and help Dallas (22-16-2, 46 points) leapfrog idle Calgary (19-12-6, 44 points) for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. The Stars became the sixth team in NHL history to score a goal in the first 15 seconds of multiple periods in a game, joining the Oilers (Dec. 28, 1990), Rangers (March 15, 1989), original Winnipeg Jets (March 5, 1988), North Stars (Oct. 11, 1986) and Penguins (Nov. 2, 1976).
