White Sox make four roster moves

CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s game vs. Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox made the following four roster moves:

 

  • Placed OF Jake Lamb on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 28) with a strained right quadriceps;

 

  • Optioned OF Luis González to Class AAA Charlotte;

 

  • Recalled 1B Gavin Sheets from Charlotte;

 

  • Reinstated OF Billy Hamilton from the 10-day injured list.

 

Sheets, 25, is batting .292/.352/.472 (47-161) with eight doubles, seven home runs, 33 RBI and 23 runs scored over 41 games with the Knights this season. Sheets, 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, has played in 26 games at first base, 15 in right field and two in left.

 

Sheets, who bats and throws left-handed, was with the White Sox from June 3-4 but did not appear in a game. He is a career .281/.357/.416 (356-1,266) hitter with 33 home runs, 205 RBI and 156 runs scored in 342 games over four minor-league seasons after being selected by the Sox in the second round of the 2017 draft out of Wake Forest.

 

Sheets, the son of former major leaguer Larry Sheets, has no MLB experience. He will wear uniform No. 32.

 

Hamilton, 30, was placed on the injured list on June 6 with a strained right oblique. He is batting .217/.246/.406 (15-69) with three doubles, two triples, two home runs, 10 RBI, 13 runs scored and five stolen bases this season, his first with the White Sox.

 

Lamb, 30, is batting .224/.333/.424 (19-85) with five home runs, 10 RBI and 16 runs scored over 31 games this season, also his first with the Sox.

 

González, 25, went 2-8 with two doubles, three walks and two runs scored in six games with the Sox after being recalled from Charlotte on June 22. He collected his first major-league hit on June 23 at Pittsburgh.
