Houston selects right-handed pitcher Ruben Garcia from Detroit

ORLANDO, FL – The Houston Astros made one selection in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft today, selecting right-handed pitcher Ruben Garcia from the Detroit Tigers organization.

The Astros also lost three players in the Minor League Rule 5 Draft, as Cincinnati selected outfielder Ronnie Dawson, Cleveland selected right-handed pitcher Brett Daniels and New York (AL) selected right-handed pitcher Manny Ramirez.

Garcia, 25, made 38 relief appearances in 2021 between High A West Michigan and Double A Erie, recording a 4.15 ERA (26ER/56.1IP) with 72 strikeouts. During his minor league career, he‘s recorded a 3.96 ERA (59ER/134IP) with 167 strikeouts and just six home runs allowed. He was originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 14th round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Eastern Florida State College.
