White Sox complete four roster moves prior to tonight’s game against the New York Yankees

NEW YORK – Prior to tonight’s series opener at New York-AL, the Chicago White Sox made the following four roster moves:

  •  Placed on 10-Day Injured List (1): INF Bryan Ramos with a left quad strain (retroactive to May 15);
  •  Recalled from Class AAA Charlotte (1): OF Corey Julks;
  •  Returned from Rehabilitation Assignment at Charlotte and Reinstated from 10-Day Injured List (1): INF Danny Mendick;
  •  Optioned to Charlotte (1): INF Braden Shewmake.

Julks, 28, was acquired from Houston on Wednesday in exchange for right-handed pitcher Luis Rodríguez. He is hitting .269/.358/.444 (35-130) with eight doubles, five home runs, 15 RBI, 26 runs scored, 20 walks and six stolen bases in 33 games between Class AAA Sugarland and Charlotte this season.

Julks, 5-foot-11 and 215 pounds, spent most of 2023 with the Astros, batting .245 (73-298) with 14 doubles, six homers, 33 RBI and 15 steals in 93 games. Four of his six home runs came against former All-Stars, including right-handers Shohei Ohtani and Corbin Burnes.

Mendick, 30, was placed on the injured list on May 4 with lower back tightness and played in two rehab games with the Knights. He is hitting .256/.293/.410 (10-39) with three doubles, one homer and three RBI in 10 games with the Sox this season after his contract was selected from Charlotte on April 22.

Ramos, 22, suffered the injury running the bases in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday vs. Washington. He is hitting .281/.294/.344 (9-32) with two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored in his first 10 major-league games after his contract was selected from Class AA Birmingham on May 4. Ramos hit safely in each of his first five career games with a plate appearance, the first White Sox player to accomplish the feat since Luis Robert Jr. in 2020.

Shewmake, 26, is batting .125 (8-64) with one home run, four RBI and four runs scored in 29 games this season, his first with the Sox after being acquired from Atlanta on November 13, 2023, as part of a six-player deal.

Following the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
