WBB: Sam Houston State women’s basketball ease past Seattle U, 69-57

The Sam Houston women’s basketball team secured a wire-to-wire victory, moving to 2-0 on the season with a 69-57 win over Seattle U on Saturday night at Johnson Coliseum.

Capitalizing on 32 Redhawk turnovers, the Bearkats scored 28 points off those mistakes, staying undefeated early in the season against their former WAC rival.

Sam Houston led by as many as 17 points in the first half and held Seattle to 37 percent shooting from the field.

The Bearkats jumped to an 18-8 lead after the first quarter. Although Seattle outscored Sam Houston in the second and third quarters to get within three points, the Bearkats ultimately pulled away.

Kelis Grant led Sam Houston with a career-high 21 points, hitting three of the team’s five 3-pointers. Deborah Ogayemi stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, nine rebounds, and six steals, while Fanta Kone dished out eight assists from the point guard position.
