Twins select contract of Elliot Soto

Cole Sands optioned to Triple-A St. Paul; Cody Stashak transferred to 60-day Injured List

SEATTLE, WA – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of infielder Elliot Soto from Triple-A St. Paul.

Soto, 32, has hit .213 (29-for-136) with eight doubles, one triple, two home runs, 19 RBI, 23 walks, four stolen bases and 26 runs scored in 41 games for the Saints this season, including seven walks and a .444 on-base percentage in seven games in June. He made his major league debut on September 25, 2020 for Los Angeles-AL and played in three games for the Angels that season, going 2-for-6 with one double, one walk and two runs scored. The Elgin, Illinois native signed a minor league contract with the Twins on February 16 and has played in parts of 12 seasons in the minors in the Chicago-NL, Miami, Colorado and Los Angeles-NL systems.

To make room on the 26-man roster, the Twins have optioned right-handed pitcher Cole Sands to Triple-A St. Paul. Sands made the start yesterday afternoon against the Tampa Bay Rays at Target Field, taking the loss after allowing five earned runs on five hits, with one walk and five strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Twins have transferred right-handed pitcher Cody Stashak to the 60-day Injured List. Stashak was originally placed on the Injured List on May 22 and is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a labrum tear in his right shoulder later this week.
