Diego Castillo optioned to Triple-A St. Paul

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Louie Varland from Triple-A St. Paul.

Varland made eight starts for the Saints from April 27-June 6, going 2-5 with a 5.31 ERA (40.2 IP, 24 ER), 14 walks and 44 strikeouts. He made the Twins Opening Day roster and made four starts for Minnesota from April 2-21, going 0-4 with a 9.18 ERA (16.2 IP, 17 ER), nine walks and 18 strikeouts and was optioned to St. Paul on April 22. Varland is scheduled to make the start for Minnesota tonight against the Colorado Rockies.

To make room for Varland on the 26-man roster, the Twins have optioned right-handed pitcher Diego Castillo to St. Paul. Castillo appeared in five games, posting a 2.57 ERA (7.0 IP, 2 ER) with seven walks and three strikeouts.
