Twins claim Daniel Duarte

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Daniel Duarte off waivers from the Texas Rangers.

Duarte, 27, appeared in 31 games for the Cincinnati Reds last season, going 3-0 with a 3.69 ERA (31.2 IP, 13 ER), one save, 20 walks, 23 strikeouts, a 1.39 WHIP and a .211 opponent batting average. He also appeared in 32 games for Triple-A Louisville in 2023, going 4-0 with a 3.34 ERA (35.0 IP, 13 ER) with seven saves, 17 walks, 39 strikeouts, a 1.17 WHIP and a .192 opponent batting average.

The 6-foot, 235-pound right-hander was originally signed by the Rangers in July of 2013 and made his major league debut with the Reds in April of 2022. The Huatabampo, Mexico native has spent nine seasons in professional baseball (both majors and minor leagues), going 15-8 with a 3.75 ERA (184.2 IP, 77 ER) in 107 career minor league appearances (13 starts) and 3-0 with a 4.19 ERA (34.1 IP, 16 ER) in 34 career major league appearances.

To make room for Duarte on the 40-man roster, the Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Ryan Jensen for release or assignment. Jensen was claimed off waivers from the Miami Marlins on January 4.

The Twins now have 40 players on their 40-man roster: 21 pitchers, three catchers, seven infielders, seven outfielders and two utility players.
