MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have claimed outfielder Bubba Thompson off waivers from the New York Yankees.

Thompson, 25, hit .259 (69-for-266) with 14 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 34 RBI, 27 stolen bases, 49 runs scored and 27 walks in 65 games combined between Triple-A Round Rock (Texas) and Triple-A Omaha (Kansas City) in 2023. He was on the Rangers’ Opening Day roster and appeared in 37 major league games for Texas between March 30 and July 30, hitting .170 (9-for-53) with four doubles, one triple, four RBI, four stolen bases and 10 runs scored. Thompson was designated for release or assignment by Texas on August 11 and claimed by Kansas City on August 13, finishing the season with Omaha.

The 6-foot-2, 197-pound outfielder was originally selected by the Rangers in the first round (26th overall) of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile, Alabama. He made his major league debut for Texas on August 4, 2022 and has hit .242 (54-for-223) with nine doubles, one triple, one home run, 13 RBI, 22 stolen bases and 28 runs scored in 92 games over parts of two major league seasons, all with the Rangers.

The Twins now have 39 players on their 40-man roster: 19 pitchers, three catchers, eight infielders and nine outfielders.
