EDMONTON, Alberta – Tonybet has secured an online gaming license from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission, clearing the international operator to enter Alberta’s newly opened regulated iGaming market.
The approval positions Tonybet to join Alberta as the second Canadian province with a competitive, multi‑operator online gaming framework, following Ontario’s launch in 2022. The company already holds licenses in Ontario and Kahnawake, making Alberta its third Canadian jurisdiction and expanding what it calls one of the broadest regulatory footprints among operators in the country.
Alberta’s market is expected to be a major growth opportunity. The province has nearly 5 million residents, a strong sports betting culture, and a regulatory model aimed at shifting existing online gaming activity into a licensed environment with player protections and oversight.
Tonybet said it plans to replicate the localized strategy it used in Ontario — emphasizing region‑specific sports markets, responsible gaming tools, and dedicated customer support — when it launches in Alberta.
“Alberta is taking the right approach — building a regulated market that puts player protection and operational standards at the center from the start. That’s exactly the kind of environment we want to operate in,” CEO Dmitry Arabuli said. He noted that Tonybet’s Ontario operations demonstrated that compliance and growth can coexist, citing a 52% increase in registrations and gross gaming revenue in 2025. “Securing this license means we can bring the same commitment to Alberta, and we plan to be fully operational in the market.”
The company said preparations for launch are underway, including platform localization, integration with Alberta’s centralized self‑exclusion system, and commercial onboarding with the Alberta iGaming Corporation.
