The New York Yankees today announced that they have signed LHP Tim Hill to a Major League contract and added him to the active roster.
Hill, 34, has made 27 relief appearances this season with the Chicago White Sox, going 1-0 with a 5.87 ERA (23.0IP, 41H, 19R/15ER, 10BB, 13K, 0HR). The left-handed pitcher began the 2024 season with Chicago-AL before being designated for assignment on June 12 and released on June 18.
Over parts of seven Major League seasons with the Kansas City Royals (2018-19), San Diego Padres (2020-23) and Chicago White Sox (2024), Hill has gone 17-14 with four saves and a 4.30 ERA (278.1IP, 290H, 163R/133ER, 94BB, 221K, 28HR) over 347 career relief appearances. Since 2018, his 29.9 inherited runners scored percentage ranks 10th among Major League relievers over that span. Additionally, his 347 relief appearances over that stretch are the sixth-most among left-handed relievers.
The Mission Hills, Calif., native was originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 32nd round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Bacone College (Okla.). He was acquired by San Diego in exchange for RHP Ronald Bolaños and OF Franchy Cordero on July 16, 2020. Hill signed with Chicago-AL to a Major League contract on December 28, 2023.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees have designated LHP Clayton Andrews for assignment.
