Jung will be eligible to return on August 1
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Saturday night’s game against the Seattle Mariners:
- Third baseman Josh Jung placed on 10-day Injured List (left calf strain), retroactive to July 22
- Infielder Josh Smith recalled from Triple-A Round Rock
Jung exited the Rangers’ game on Tuesday vs. Chicago-AL after 3 innings due to the left calf injury and has not played in the club’s past two contests. He has batted .294/.361/.441/.802 with 9 home runs, 23 doubles, and 35 RBI over 92 games for Texas this season, ranking among American League leaders in multi-hit games (T2nd, 32), batting average (3rd, .294), doubles (T3rd, 23), and hits (T9th, 104). Jung’s .375 batting average in home games is tied with Houston’s Yordan Alvarez for the highest figure in the Majors. The first date that Jung would be eligible to return to the active roster is August 1.
Smith will be in his third stint with the Rangers this season, also Opening Day-June 18 and July 1-8. He has batted .230 with one home run and 8 RBI over 40 games for Texas in 2026, seeing the bulk of his defensive action at second base (34 games/30 starts), while also appearing at leftfield (3 games/one start), third base (2 games), first base (one game/start), and designated hitter (2 games). In 9 games for Round Rock this month, Smith batted .206 (7-34) with one double, one RBI, 4 walks, and 2 stolen bases.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with six players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP Carter Baumler, LHP’s Jalen Beeks, Cody Bradford, Robert Garcia, and Jordan Montgomery, and INF/OF Michael Helman).
