Texas Rangers Make Roster Moves Ahead of Athletics Matchup

Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers have announced a pair of roster moves ahead of Thursday’s game against the Oakland Athletics at Globe Life Field.

  • Catcher Kyle Higashioka has been placed on the 10-day Injured List (mild left intercostal strain), retroactive to April 30.
  • Right-handed pitcher Caleb Boushley has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.

Higashioka, 35, sustained the injury while running out a three-run double in the eighth inning of Tuesday’s game against the Athletics. In his first season with Texas after signing a two-year free agent contract on December 2, 2024, Higashioka has made 17 starts (15 at catcher, 2 at designated hitter), batting .254/.279/.390 (15-for-59) with one home run, five doubles, eight RBIs, two walks, and three runs scored. Among American League catchers with at least 15 starts, he ranks first in catcher ERA (2.75), fifth in doubles, and tied for 10th in extra-base hits.

Boushley (pronounced BAHZ-lee) returns for his second stint with Texas this season after previously being with the club from April 8-27. Over three appearances, the 31-year-old right-hander has posted a 5.87 ERA (5 ER/7.2 IP) with two walks and six strikeouts. He began the season at Round Rock, making two starts (0-1, 2.08 ERA) before his initial call-up. After being optioned to Triple-A on Monday, Boushley started for Round Rock on Wednesday against Sugar Land, tossing two scoreless innings (three hits, one walk, three strikeouts, 39 pitches/24 strikes).

Originally signed by Texas to a minor league contract on November 15, 2024, Boushley has previously played in the San Diego (2017-21), Milwaukee (2022-23), and Minnesota (2024) farm systems.

With today’s moves, the Rangers remain at the 40-man roster limit, while three players (Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Josh Sborz) remain on the 60-day Injured List.
