San Francisco, Calif. — The Texas Rangers announced the following roster moves ahead of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park:
- Right-handed pitcher Jack Leiter has been activated from the 15-day Injured List (right middle finger blister).
- Right-handed pitcher Gerson Garabito has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
Leiter, who celebrated his 25th birthday on Monday, will take the mound in today’s series finale against the Giants. The highly-touted pitcher has been sidelined for Texas’ last 20 games due to a blister on his right middle finger. Leiter was placed on the Injured List on April 4 (retroactive to April 3), two days after throwing 5.0 scoreless innings in his season debut against Cincinnati on April 2.
During his rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock, Leiter made one start on Tuesday against Las Vegas. In that outing, he impressed with 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, one walk, and striking out four on 60 pitches (40 for strikes). Leiter retired 13 of the 15 batters he faced and reached 98.9 mph on his four-seam fastball in his final inning of work.
In his two starts with the Rangers this season before his injury, Leiter compiled a 2-0 record with a sparkling 0.90 ERA (1 ER/10.0 IP). He walked one batter, struck out 10, and held opposing hitters to a .171 batting average (6-for-35), posting a 0.70 WHIP. Leiter notched his first career Major League win in his season opener on March 28 against Boston.
Since his MLB debut on April 18, 2024, at Detroit, the Plantation, Fla., native has a career record of 2-3 with a 7.09 ERA (36 ER/45.2 IP) and 41 strikeouts across 11 appearances (8 starts). Leiter was selected by Texas with the 2nd overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of Vanderbilt University and is currently ranked as the Rangers’ No. 3 prospect by MLB Pipeline.
Garabito, 29, did not pitch for Texas during his second stint with the team this season (April 24-26). The right-hander made the Opening Day roster and has appeared in three MLB games in 2025 (all in relief), with no record and a 9.00 ERA (8 ER/8.0 IP). Additionally, in two starts with Triple-A Round Rock this season, Garabito is 0-2 with a 15.19 ERA (9 ER/5.1 IP).
Across his Major League career, which began with the Rangers in 2024, Garabito has pitched in 21 games (2 starts), posting an 0-2 record with a 5.77 ERA (22 ER/34.1 IP) and 30 strikeouts.
With these transactions, the Rangers maintain their 40-man roster limit, which includes three players—Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, and Josh Sborz—currently on the 60-day Injured List.
