Langford missed Texas’ last 9 games with a left hamstring strain
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced the following transactions prior to tonight’s series finale against the Los Angeles Angels at Globe Life Field:
- Outfielder Wyatt Langford activated from 10-day Injured List
- Infielder Josh Smith optioned to Triple-A Round Rock
Langford, 24, missed Texas’ last 9 games after being placed on the 10-day Injured List June 28 with a left hamstring strain, an injury he sustained while running to second base on his 4th-inning double June 26 at Toronto. The third-year outfielder is slashing .278/.324/.500/.824 (45-162) with 8 home runs, 2 triples, 8 doubles, and 20 RBI in 40 games this season for the Rangers, including hits in 9 of his last 10 games at a .405 (17-42) clip. His current 10-game on-base streak is the longest active run by a Ranger. Langford did not complete an injury rehabilitation assignment prior to activation.
Smith, 28, batted .286 (6-21) with one home run, one triple, and 2 RBI in 6 games for Texas since being recalled from Round Rock on July 1. For the season, Smith has a .230 (28-122) batting average with 8 RBI in 40 games with Texas, seeing the bulk of his defensive action at second base (34 games/30 starts), while also appearing at leftfield (3 games/one start), third base (2 games), first base (one game/start), and designated hitter (2 games).
With today’s transactions, the Rangers have 39 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with five players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP Carter Baumler, LHP’s Cody Bradford, Robert Garcia, and Jordan Montgomery, and INF/OF Michael Helman).
