Arlington, Texas Ahead of Saturday night’s matchup against the Seattle Mariners at Globe Life Field, the Texas Rangers announced several roster moves:

  • Activated SS Corey Seager from the 10-day injured list (right hamstring strain).
  • Optioned INF Jonathan Ornelas to Triple-A Round Rock.
  • Assigned outright RHP Dane Dunning to Triple-A Round Rock.

Seager Returns After Minimal Time on IL

Seager, 31, spent the minimum 10 days on the IL following a right hamstring strain suffered on April 22 against Oakland. The left-handed-hitting shortstop took live batting practice at Globe Life Field on Thursday and Friday, opting not to make a minor league rehab appearance.

Through 21 games in 2025, Seager has posted a .286/.345/.468 (.813 OPS) slash line with:
22 hits (77 at-bats)
4 home runs & 2 doubles
6 RBI, 7 walks, 15 strikeouts
8 runs scored

Prior to his injury, Seager reached base in 11 of his last 12 games (April 8-22), hitting .370 (17-for-46) with 3 home runs and 5 RBI. He leads Texas position players with 1.4 bWAR (Baseball Reference), and the team is 12-8 (.600) in his 20 starts at shortstop this season.

Since signing a 10-year free agent deal with the Rangers on December 1, 2021, Seager has hit .281/.350/.522 (.872 OPS) with:
🏆 100 home runs
📊 89 doubles & 259 RBI
💪 22.7 bWAR (since 2020, 2nd most among MLB shortstops behind Francisco Lindor)

Ornelas Sent Down After Brief Stint

Ornelas, 24, has made two stints with Texas in 2025, going 0-for-5 with one walk & three strikeouts over four games (three at SS, one at 2B). He was recalled May 2, entering defensively at second base Friday against Seattle and grounding out in his only plate appearance.

Over three MLB seasons (2023-25), Ornelas has played 30 games (14 starts), slashing .184 (9-for-49) with 2 doubles & 3 RBI.

Dunning Assigned to Round Rock

Dunning, 30, was designated for assignment Wednesday following his 2025 debut Tuesday against Oakland (SV, 3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R/ER, 2 BB, 3 SO, 1 HR, 52 pitches/31 strikes).

He is expected to report to Round Rock in the coming days. Across 125 career MLB games (102 starts) with Chicago-AL (2020) & Texas (2021-25), he holds a 28-32 record with one save and a 4.36 ERA (279 ER/575.2 IP).

Rangers Maintain 40-Man Roster

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit, with three players (Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Josh Sborz) currently on the 60-day injured list.
