Jansen missed Texas’ last 64 games with a right forearm strain
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced the following transactions prior to tonight’s series opener against the Washington Nationals at Globe Life Field:
- Catcher Danny Jansen activated from 60-day Injured List
- Catcher Austin Wynns designated for assignment
Jansen, 31, missed the Rangers’ last 64 games with a right forearm strain. He was initially placed on the 10-day Injured List on June 6 (retroactive to June 3) and was transferred to the 60-day Injured List on July 29. The right-handed-hitting backstop returned to game action last week on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock, going 5-for-15 (.333) with one RBI and 2 walks in 5 starts, including 4 at catcher where he threw out each of his 2 attempted base stealers. Jansen reached in 3 of 4 plate appearances in his last rehab game Sunday vs. Sugar Land, collecting 2 singles and drawing a walk.
Prior to his Injured List stint, Jansen batted .171/.277/.309/.586 (21-123) with 3 home runs, one triple, 6 doubles, 12 RBI, and 11 runs scored in 41 games for the Rangers this season. He was signed by Texas to a two-year Major League contract on December 15, 2025. The Elmhurst, Illinois native has accrued 11.8 baseball-reference WAR with a .717 OPS over 9 Major League seasons since debuting with the Blue Jays in 2018. Jansen was originally selected by Toronto in the 16th round of the 2013 MLB Draft from Appleton West (Wis.) High School.
Wynns, 35, appeared in 14 games for Texas since having his contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock on July 21, going 8-for-29 with one home run and one RBI. The Rangers have seven days to trade, release, or outright Wynns to the minor leagues.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers have 39 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with six players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP’s Carter Baumler, Jose Corniell, and Jack Leiter, LHP’s Jalen Beeks and Robert Garcia, and INF/OF Michael Helman).
