Tampa Bay Lightning recall Sabourin, assign Chaffee to Syracuse

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled forward Scott Sabourin from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, Vice President and General Manager Julien BriseBois announced today. In a corresponding move, forward Mitchell Chaffee has been reassigned to Syracuse.

Sabourin, 33, has appeared in five games with the Crunch this season, recording one goal, two points, and seven penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 205‑pound winger brings extensive AHL experience, having skated in 537 career games with Syracuse, San Jose, Belleville, Toronto, Stockton, San Diego, Iowa, Ontario, and Manchester. Over that span, he has totaled 89 goals, 183 points, and 1,230 penalty minutes. Sabourin, originally undrafted, signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent on July 13, 2025.

Chaffee, 27, has played in seven games with the Lightning this season, registering eight shots on goal and four penalty minutes. The Grand Rapids, Michigan native has appeared in 103 career NHL games with Tampa Bay, producing 16 goals and 25 points while averaging 11:39 of ice time. At the AHL level, Chaffee has suited up in 123 games between Syracuse and Iowa, tallying 42 goals, 89 points, and six game‑winners. Like Sabourin, he entered the league undrafted and was signed by Tampa Bay as a free agent on July 1, 2023.
