SEATTLE, WA. – Seattle Reign FC has re-signed veteran midfielder Nikki Stanton through the 2024 NWSL season, the club announced today. Stanton was an unrestricted free agent who has been in the league since 2014, spending the last two seasons with the Reign.

“So pumped to be re-signing with the Reign for a third season! It has been an absolute honor playing for my hometown team and our incredible fans,” said Stanton. “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. See you at Lumen, Seattle! Can’t wait!”

The 10-year veteran was traded to the Reign from the Chicago Red Stars ahead of the 2022 season and has since totaled 42 appearances in all NWSL competitions. During the 2023 regular season, Stanton made 15 appearances and recorded two assists, tied for the second most on the team, adding 31 duels won, 11 interceptions and nine tackles won. The midfielder also appeared in six games of the UKG Challenge Cup, totaling the third-most minutes on the roster (482).

Prior to joining Seattle Reign FC, the North Bend, Washington native spent three years with the Chicago Red Stars and five years with NJ/NY Gotham FC, formerly Sky Blue FC, making a combined 93 appearances (48 starts). Stanton has amassed 121 regular season appearances and four appearances in the NWSL playoffs.

“Nikki has been such a stalwart in the league,” said Seattle Reign FC General Manager Lesle Gallimore. “She provides a level of experience that we value, a defensive presence that positively impacts games and an uplifting attitude that is infectious.”
