Infielder Jorge Polanco declines 2026 player option

SEATTLE – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander today announced the following transactions:

  • RHP Cole Wilcox acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash considerations.
  • INF Ryan Bliss reinstated from the 60-day Injured List (torn left biceps).
  • RHP Gregory Santos reinstated from the 60-day Injured List (right knee inflammation).
  • RHP Trent Thornton reinstated from the 60-day Injured List (torn left Achilles).
  • INF Jorge Polanco has declined his 2026 player option and is now a free agent.

With these moves, the Mariners’ 40-man roster currently stands at 37 players.

Cole Wilcox

  • Age: 26
  • MLB Debut: September 19, 2025, with Tampa Bay, tossing one inning. Designated for assignment by the Rays on November 3.
  • Minor League Career: Over five seasons in the Rays system, Wilcox has posted a 3.90 ERA across 369.0 innings, with 348 strikeouts, 124 walks, and a 1.25 WHIP in 109 games (71 starts).
  • Background: Drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 3rd round of the 2020 MLB Draft out of the University of Georgia. Traded to Tampa Bay on December 29, 2020, as part of the deal that sent LHP Blake Snell to San Diego.
