SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants have agreed to a one-year Major League contract with right‑handed pitcher Tyler Mahle (pronounced MAH‑lee, rhymes with “rally”).

Mahle, 31, is coming off a standout 2025 season with Texas in which he delivered a career‑best 2.18 ERA (21 ER, 86.2 IP) and a 1.13 WHIP across 16 starts. He went 6–4 and set personal bests in opponents’ batting average (.218), OPS (.593), and home runs allowed per nine innings (0.52), minimum 10 starts.

He was named the Rangers’ Player of the Month for March/April after opening the season 3–0 with a 1.14 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over six April starts. Mahle led the American League in ERA, opponents’ OPS (.465), and slugging percentage (.211) during the season’s first month. He opened his 2025 campaign with 40.2 consecutive homerless innings—the longest such streak to begin a season by any Major League starter—and surrendered only five home runs all year. Through his first 10 starts, he posted a 5–1 record with a 1.47 ERA and 0.98 WHIP.

Mahle spent June 12 to September 18 on the Injured List with right shoulder fatigue. After returning, he made two starts and allowed just one earned run over 9.2 innings (0.93 ERA).

A seventh‑round pick by Cincinnati in 2013 out of Westminster (CA) High School, Mahle has appeared in 142 Major League games (141 starts) over nine seasons with the Reds (2017–22), Twins (2022–23), and Rangers (2024–25). He owns a career 39–46 record with a 4.07 ERA and 753 strikeouts (9.22 K/9). Since 2020, he has gone 28–23 with a 3.61 ERA (190 ER, 473.1 IP) in 90 games (89 starts).
