SAN FRANCISCO – The Giants and left-handed pitcher Sam Hentges agreed to terms on a one-year Major League contract.

Hentges (HENT-chiss), 29, missed the entire 2025 season while recovering from left capsule surgery performed in September 2024. He also had a right knee arthroscopy to address his meniscus this past August. The expectation is Hentges will be ready for Spring Training.

From 2022-2024, Hentges worked solely as a reliever for Cleveland and combined for a 2.4 bWAR, 2.93 ERA (45er, 138.0ip), 155 strikeouts, and a 1.12 WHIP in 138 games. His 2.93 ERA from 2022-2024 ranked as the sixth best among left-handed relievers with at least 135.0 innings pitched over that span.

The Shoreview, MN native was a fourth-round pick by the Guardians in 2014 out of Mounds View High School (Arden Hills, MN). He pitched parts of four seasons in the Majors with the Guardians from 2021-2024, going 7-8 with a 4.18 ERA (96er, 206.2ip), 223 strikeouts, and a 1.34 WHIP over 168 games (12 starts).
