Royals acquire right-handed pitcher Colin Selby from Pittsburgh

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher **Colin Selby from the Pittsburgh Pirates for minor league left-handed pitcher Connor Oliver. Selby, 26, was designated for assignment last Tuesday and has been assigned to Triple-A Omaha.

In a corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Josh Taylor has been transferred to the 60-day Injured List.

Selby made his Major League debut with Pittsburgh last Aug. 9 and spent the rest of the season in the Majors, were he recorded 30 strikeouts in 24.0 innings (11.3 K/9) over 21 appearances (including 5 as the opener). He began the 2023 season in Triple-A Indianapolis, where he recorded 6 saves and a 3.86 ERA (13 ER in 30.1 IP) with 41 strikeouts (12.2 K/9).

He was selected by Pittsburgh in the 16th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. In parts of six seasons in the minors, he owns a 3.49 ERA (102 ER in 263.1 IP) and .209 opponents’ average with 280 strikeouts (9.6 K/9).

Oliver, 22, was selected by Kansas City in the 17th round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft and appeared in 1 game with the ACL Royals in August.
