Romania’s gambling regulator, the National Office for Gambling (ONJN), has moved to block access to 30 unlicensed betting sites by ordering all local Internet service providers to restrict their domains. Operators now have a 15-day grace period to cease marketing to Romanian players before ISPs implement the ban. While domain-blocking is a common tool for watchdogs, its effectiveness can be undermined by operators simply relaunching under new URLs.
None of the targeted platforms held a valid ONJN license, and the regulator also urged the government to strengthen the national self-exclusion program. Among the newly blacklisted sites are wazbee.casino, jackpot.com, nv5.casino and nv93.casino—names that appear designed to allow quick rebranding after a shutdown. To tighten the net on illegal operators, Romanian authorities have further called on Google and Meta to ensure their ad networks don’t allow unauthorized gambling advertisements directed at local customers.
