The Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA) has announced the launch of its new Know Your Play campaign, in collaboration with EPIC Global Solutions, the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC), and Kindbridge Behavioral Health. This initiative aims to educate college-age individuals on responsible gambling.
ROGA Announces Know Your Play Initiative
ROGA has partnered with several major organizations to roll out the Know Your Play campaign. The program aims to provide college students with information on responsible gaming, mental health and well-being, and financial literacy.
The campaign will begin on college campuses over the next few weeks, featuring in-person learning sessions and workshops complemented by digital delivery tools such as videos to enhance accessibility and reach. This comprehensive approach ensures effective engagement with students from various campuses and backgrounds.
Learning Resources for College Students
College-aged individuals, whether enrolled in a university or not, can visit knowyourplay.org to access the new learning resources. These materials will help students understand responsible gaming concepts such as randomness, impulsiveness, and limit setting, while also dispelling myths about gambling, like the illusion of control in sports betting. The campaign will address the impact of stress and mental health on overall student well-being, offering practical tips for managing these challenges. Additionally, select universities will test further resources.
ROGA’s new campaign aligns with other recent initiatives by the organization, such as the launch of a responsible gaming certification program last month to enhance responsible gambling efforts in the industry.
Officials Discuss the Program
According to ROGA Executive Director Dr. Jennifer Shatley, college students are learning to navigate newfound financial independence. Providing this age group with resources to make informed decisions that foster good financial habits will benefit them throughout their lives, regardless of whether they engage in gaming. Shatley explained that while older programs focused on student-athletes, the Know Your Play campaign aims to educate the broader student population about responsible gaming concepts.
Teresa Fiore, SVP of Partnerships at EPIC Global Solutions, expressed her excitement about the initiative. Fiore highlighted EPIC’s extensive expertise in creating programs that connect with college-aged audiences. The organization is thrilled to partner with ROGA on a campaign that will deliver essential education to college students nationwide. By blending expert knowledge with personal stories, the program seeks to promote a well-rounded understanding of financial literacy, decision-making, and risk-taking.
Meanwhile, RGC CEO Sarah McCarthy noted the organization’s long history of creating prevention programs for young adults. She explained that the Know Your Play campaign will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions should they choose to gamble.
Finally, Kindbridge Group CEO Daniel Umfleet highlighted the challenges, such as financial independence and academic performance, that college students face. These challenges can negatively impact young people’s mental health. Umfleet explained that the new program will help students build resilience, manage stress, and develop healthy habits that will serve them well beyond their college years.
