BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced that catcher Tyler Heineman was reinstated from the 10-Day Injured List and optioned to Triple-A Worcester following last night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Heineman, 32, was placed on the Injured List on April 23, retroactive to April 22, with a right hamstring strain. The switch-hitter played in four rehab games with Worcester (three games) and Double-A Portland (one game), making two starts as the designated hitter and two as the catcher. In 12 games with Worcester this season, he has batted .235 (8-for-34) with eight runs scored, three RBI, and seven walks. Originally selected by the Houston Astros in the eighth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has batted .217 (54-for-249) in 105 career Major League games with the Miami Marlins (2019), San Francisco Giants (2020), Toronto Blue Jays (2022-23), Pittsburgh Pirates (2022-23), and Red Sox (2024).
