Eovaldi left Sunday’s game vs. Washington in the 6th inning with right groin tightness

Kansas City, Mo. — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Friday night’s series opener against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium:

  • Right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi placed on 15-day Injured List (right groin strain).
  • Right-handed pitcher Yerry Rodríguez recalled from Round Rock (AAA).

Eovaldi, 34, earned the win in the Rangers’ 6-0 win over the Washington Nationals Sunday after throwing 5.1 shutout frames. He was lifted from the contest after experiencing right groin tightness in the 6th inning.

The right-hander has gone 2-2 with a 2.61 ERA (12 ER/41.1 IP) in 7 starts for Texas this season and ranks among American League pitchers in starts (T1st), innings (T5th), strikeouts (T5th, 44), opponent batting average (11th, .201), and ERA (T12th).

A two-time All-Star and 2023 All-MLB 2nd Team selection, Eovaldi has compiled a career 81-75 record, 4.06 ERA (651 ER/1443.0 IP), and 1236 strikeouts across 272 career games (253 starts) over stints with Los Angeles-NL (2011-12), Miami (2012-14), New York-AL (2015-16), Tampa Bay (2018), Boston (2018-22), and Texas (2023-24).

Rodríguez, 26, has gone 1-0 with a 5.14 ERA (4 ER/7.0 IP) in 5 relief appearances with Triple-A Round Rock this season, having last appeared on Wednesday in the Express’ 6-3 win over Albuquerque (SV, 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO). This marks the right-hander’s second stint with Texas in 2024 (also Opening Day-4/14), posting a 10.50 ERA (7 ER/6.0 IP) in his 6 relief outings with the Rangers this season.

With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the Major League roster along with 6 players (Brock Burke, Carson Coleman, Jacob deGrom, Justin Foscue, Josh Jung, Tyler Mahle) on the 60-day Injured List.
