Rangers place LHP Cody Bradford on 15-day injured list, recall RHP Cole Winn from Triple-A Round Rock

Winn will be available for Sunday’s series finale in Houston

Houston, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves prior to Sunday afternoon’s series finale against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park:

  • Left-handed pitcher Cody Bradford placed on 15-day Injured List, retroactive to April 11, with a low back strain.
  • Right-handed pitcher Cole Winn (#60) recalled from Round Rock (AAA).

Bradford has gone 3-0 with a 1.40 ERA (3 ER/19.1 IP) over 3 games/starts for the Rangers this season, ranking among American League leaders in wins (T1st), opponent batting average (4th, .145), and ERA (9th). He is just the second pitcher in Rangers history to go 3-0 with an ERA of 1.40-or-lower over his first 3 starts of a campaign, joining Matt Harrison in 2011 (3-0, 1.23 ERA). The first date that Bradford would be eligible to return is April 26.

Winn, 24, will be seeking his Major League debut. He has spent the season with Triple-A Round Rock, allowing 5 runs/4 earned runs over 6.1 innings spanning 4 relief appearances with one walk and 9 strikeouts (12.8 strikeouts per 9 innings). He has been scoreless in 3 of his 4 outings at Triple-A with multiple strikeouts in each appearance. His last outing was on Thursday vs. Oklahoma City: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO, 12 pitches/9 strikes. Winn had 4 games/1 start for Texas this spring, allowing 8 runs/earned runs over 7.1 innings before he was optioned to Round Rock on March 10.

The right-hander in his fifth professional season after he was selected with the Rangers’ top pick (15th overall) in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft. Winn was the Rangers’ 2021 Nolan Ryan Minor League Pitcher of the Year, the same year that he started for the American League in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. Winn was ranked among the Texas organization’s top 30 prospects ahead of the 2023 campaign by Baseball America (12th) and MLB Pipeline (28th).

With today’s transactions, Texas remains at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with five players (Carson Coleman, Jacob deGrom, Justin Foscue, Josh Jung, and Tyler Mahle) on the 60-day Injured List.
