Baltimore, Md. — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Josh Mollerus (pronounced mo-LAIR-us) from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Yerry Rodríguez. Mollerus has been assigned to the Rangers’ High-A Hickory affiliate.

The 24-year-old Mollerus has gone 1-4 with a 4.03 ERA (13 ER/29.0 IP) over 22 relief appearances for High-A Vancouver of the Northwest League this season, averaging 13.3 strikeouts per 9 innings (43 SO/19 BB) while allowing just 2 home runs in the year. He was selected by Toronto in the 10th round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of the University of Oregon. The Bay Area native also pitched four seasons as the University of San Francisco from 2019-22.

The 25-year-old Rodríguez was designated for assignment by Texas on June 26. He went 1-0, 6.88 ERA (13 ER/17.0 IP) with 12 strikeouts/11 walks in 12 appearances over three stints with Texas in 2024 (Opening Day-April 14, May 3-27, June 18-22). He has spent the entirety of his eight-year professional career in the Rangers organization after signing as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic on September 2, 2015.

With today’s transactions, Texas remains at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with seven players on the 60-day Injured List: Cody Bradford, Carson Coleman, Jacob deGrom, Josh Jung, Tyler Mahle, Austin Pruitt, Cole Winn.
