Veteran Goaltender Joins Expansion Team for Inaugural Season
VANCOUVER, BC – PWHL Vancouver has officially signed Emerance Maschmeyer to a two-year contract, securing the elite goaltender through the 2026-27 season. Maschmeyer, a 2022 Olympic gold medalist, spent the past two seasons with the Ottawa Charge and now becomes the third player to join Vancouver’s expansion roster.
A World-Class Presence in Net
Vancouver General Manager Cara Gardner Morey praised Maschmeyer’s talent and leadership, stating:
“Emerance is quite simply one of the best in the world at her position, and Vancouver is fortunate to have a goaltender and Olympian of her caliber between the pipes to launch our inaugural season. Her veteran leadership, relentless compete, and poise under pressure are contagious qualities that our team will feed off of, giving us a chance to win every game.”
Maschmeyer’s Impressive Career
Maschmeyer was one of Ottawa’s foundational signings, solidifying her reputation as one of the PWHL’s premier goaltenders. Across two seasons, she:
- Recorded 15 wins and two shutouts, maintaining a career 2.42 goals-against-average and .914 save percentage.
- Led all goaltenders with 23 appearances and 548 saves in the league’s inaugural season.
- Played in 18 of Ottawa’s first 22 games in 2024-25 before suffering a season-ending injury.
- Became the first goaltender in PWHL history to surpass 1,000 career regular-season saves on March 11, 2025.
Before joining the PWHL, Maschmeyer played collegiately at Harvard University and competed professionally in the CWHL and PWHPA. On the international stage, she is an eight-time World Championship medalist with Team Canada, winning gold in 2022.

With Maschmeyer’s signing, Vancouver has now reached three of its five allowed expansion signings.
Next Steps – 2025 PWHL Expansion Draft
Expansion teams have until Sunday, June 8 at 5 p.m. ET to sign a maximum of five players before the 2025 PWHL Expansion Draft, presented by Upper Deck, takes place on Monday, June 9 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Fans can watch the live draft via thepwhl.com and the league’s YouTube channel, where Seattle and Vancouver will each select at least seven additional players to complete their 12-player roster minimum.
