NEW YORK & TORONTO – The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) today announced disciplinary action following a review by the Player Safety Committee, resulting in a one-game suspension for Minnesota Frost forward Britta Curl-Salemme.
The suspension stems from an incident in Game 1 of the PWHL Playoffs against Toronto, where Curl-Salemme delivered a high and forceful check at 14:37 of the second period. The committee determined that the head was the primary point of contact and that such impact could have been avoided, constituting a violation of PWHL Rule 48 – Illegal Check to the Head. The play earned Curl-Salemme a major penalty and game misconduct.
This marks Curl-Salemme’s third suspension of the season, following infractions on January 2 vs. Boston (high sticking) and March 9 vs. Toronto (illegal check to the head).
The Player Safety Committee, chaired by Jayna Hefford, Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations, includes Cassie Campbell-Pascall, Bill McCreary, Mike Murphy, and Matt McMahon. The committee provides independent oversight and recommendations for supplemental discipline in the interest of player safety across the league.
