The Pittsburgh Pirates today recalled infielder Liover Peguero and outfielder Joshua Palacios from Triple-A Indianapolis.
First baseman Rowdy Tellez and outfielder Michael A. Taylor have been designated for assignment.
This is Peguero’s second stint with the Pirates this season. He was also with the team from June 4-7 but did not appear in a game.
The 23-year-old Peguero finished first among all Pirates minor leaguers this season in hits (127), RBI (79) and doubles (29), tied for first in total bases (203) and second in extra base hits (46).
This is also Palacios’ second stint with the Pirates this season. He was recalled from Triple-A on July 4 before being placed on the injured list on July 31 with a left hamstring strain. He then began a rehab assignment with Indianapolis on August 8, before being returned from rehab and optioned to Triple-A on August 19.
Prior to being promoted back to the big leagues, Palacios ranked second in the International League in the month of September in batting (.394), slugging (.803) and OPS (1.249), first in doubles (13), tied for third in hits (26), and ninth in RBI (16) and OBP (.446).
There are now 38 players on Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster.
