The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired right-handed pitcher Brett de Geus (pronounced duh-GUS) from Toronto in exchange for cash considerations.

De Geus, 27, was designated for assignment by Toronto on January 10. In 2024, he made a combined 13 relief appearances for Seattle, Miami, and Toronto, posting a 0-2 record with a 7.15 ERA (11.1 IP/ 9 ER).
De Geus also pitched at the Triple-A level last season, making a combined 39 relief appearances for Tacoma, Jacksonville, and Buffalo. During this time, he went 0-4 with a 5.31 ERA (39.0 IP/23 ER) and maintained a 56.9% groundball rate.
Originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 33rd round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of Cabrillo (CA) College, de Geus has experience in various MLB and minor league teams.
