Pittsburgh Pirates acquire outfielder Bryan De La Cruz from Miami

The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired outfielder Bryan De La Cruz from Miami in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Jun-Seok Shim and minor league infielder Garret Forrester.

De La Cruz, who was leading the Marlins with 18 home runs this season coming into today, was hitting .245 (104-for-424) with 19 doubles, 51 RBI and 44 runs scored in a team-high 105 games.

The right-handed hitting De La Cruz played in 153 games for the Marlins in 2023, where he had a team-high 78 RBI while making 132 starts in left field, 10 in right field and four in left field.

The 27-year-old De La Cruz has hit .258 (395-for-1531) with 78 doubles, two triples, 55 home runs and 191 RBI in 431 games since breaking into the big leagues with the Marlins in 2021.

De La Cruz was originally signed by Houston as a non-drafted free agent in 2013 before being acquired by Miami on July 28, 2021.
