Entire Major League Coaching Staff to Return for 2025 Season
The Phillies have extended the contract of manager Rob Thomson through the 2026 season. In addition, the entire major league coaching staff is set to return for the 2025 season.
Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcements.
Thomson, who guided the Phillies to 95 wins in 2024, the sixth-most in franchise history and most since a franchise-record 102 wins in 2011, is the first person in Phillies history to reach the postseason in each of his first three years as a manager in the major leagues. His .575 winning percentage is the best among all skippers in Phillies history.
Since being named manager on June 3, 2022, Thomson, 61, has guided the Phillies to a 250-185 record with a .575 winning percentage that ranks fifth in Major League Baseball. The 56th manager in Phillies history, Thomson reached 250 wins in his 435th game on Sept. 29, which is tied for the second fastest to 250 wins among all managers in club history. Thomson is tied with Bill Shettsline, who won his 250th game in his 435th career decision on June 15, 1901, and he trails only Pat Moran, who won his 250th game in his 425th career decision on Sept. 3, 1917.
Prior to joining the Phillies as bench coach on Dec. 5, 2017, Thomson spent 28 years as a member of the New York Yankees organization (1990-2017), including 10 seasons on the major league coaching staff as bench coach (2008, 2015-17) and third base coach (2009-14). A former catcher, he played four minor league seasons in the Detroit Tigers farm system from 1985-88. Thomson attended the University of Kansas.
