Prior to tonight’s game against the Miami Marlins, the Phillies placed infielder Alec Bohm on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to 9/3) with a left hand strain. To fill his spot on the 28-man roster, the club recalled infielder Buddy Kennedy from triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
The 28-year-old Bohm was named an All-Star for the first time in his career after winning phase two of fan voting and being elected the National League’s starting third baseman. He is tied for the major league lead with 44 doubles this season, one shy of Scott Rolen’s franchise record of 45 by a third baseman in 1998. Bohm is slashing .290/.329/.419 through 131 games this year, and recently became the first Phillies infielder to reach base safely in 36 straight games since Jimmy Rollins in 2005.
Bohm was selected by the Phillies in the first round (3rd overall) of the 2018 MLB Draft.
Kennedy, 25, rejoins the Phillies after a short stint with the club from Aug. 26-27, in which he did not appear in a game. Since being acquired by Philadelphia from the Detroit Tigers on June 7, Kennedy has slashed .295/.397/.513 (.910 OPS) with 19 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs, 32 RBI, 37 walks and 42 runs scored in 63 games for the IronPigs. His 31 doubles between Lehigh Valley and Toledo this season rank tied for second in the International League. Kennedy appeared in six games for the Tigers to start the season, with his last major league appearance coming on April 27.
The Millville High School (N.J.) graduate was originally selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the 2017 MLB Draft and his grandfather, Don Money, played 524 games with the Phillies from 1968-72.
