Philadelphia Phillies Claim RHP Brett de Geus Off Waivers

The Philadelphia Phillies have announced the acquisition of right-handed pitcher Brett de Geus off waivers from the Miami Marlins. De Geus has been optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The move was confirmed by Phillies President of Baseball Operations, Dave Dombrowski.

De Geus, 27, appeared in 13 relief outings during the 2024 season with the Seattle Mariners, Miami Marlins, and Toronto Blue Jays. Over 11.1 innings, he recorded a 7.15 ERA (9 earned runs) while delivering nine scoreless appearances. According to Statcast, his sinker averaged an impressive 96.4 mph, placing him in the 86th percentile for fastball velocity.

Across his MLB career, De Geus has made 60 relief appearances over the 2021 and 2024 seasons, compiling a 3-4 record with a 7.48 ERA (51 earned runs in 61.1 innings).

A native of Pleasanton, California, De Geus was originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 33rd round of the 2017 MLB Draft. The Phillies look forward to his contributions as he continues to develop in Triple-A.
