The Phillies have acquired left-handed pitcher Tanner Banks from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league infielder William Bergolla.
Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Banks, 32, has appeared in 41 games for the White Sox this season and has 55 strikeouts to 15 walks in 48.0 innings pitched with a 4.13 ERA (22 ER). He has faced 83 left-handed hitters this season, struck out 28, and held them to a .184/.229/.263 slash line. His .492 opponents OPS against left-handers ranks fourth among all left-handed pitchers in baseball this year (min. 80 batters faced), behind only Ryan Yarbrough (.425 OPS), Tyler Holton (.452 OPS) and Tarik Skubal (.452 OPS).
Originally selected by the White Sox in the 18th round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of the University of Utah, Banks has appeared in 108 games (4 starts) for Chicago over three seasons (2022-24) and has posted a 3.89 ERA (70 ER, 162.0 IP) with 155 strikeouts and 49 walks.
Bergolla, 19, played in 67 games this season for single-A Jersey Shore and posted a .735 OPS. He was originally signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on Jan. 15, 2022.
