OTTAWA – The Ottawa REDBLACKS announced on Sunday they have release two players, including former All-CFL receiver Eugene Lewis.
Lewis signed with Ottawa in 2025 and appeared in 24 games with the team, catching 95 passes for 1,233 yards and six majors. That includes a 2025 season where Lewis appeared in all 18 games, catching 75 passes for 1,012 yards and six touchdowns.
In 2026, Lewis was part of six games for the REDBLACKS, catching 20 passes for 231 yards as Ottawa searches for its first win.
Overall, the pass-catcher has been named to three All-CFL teams (2021, 2022, 2024). Lewis started his CFL career with the Montreal Alouettes (2017-2022), before joining the Edmonton Elks (2023-2024) and REDBLACKS (2025-2026).
The team also announced they have released American defensive back Shakur Brown.
The REDBLACKS also announced they have signed following, American offensive lineman Jamar McGloster, American defensive lineman Jordan Lawson and American defensive back Christian Matthew.
McGloster has suited up in 34 games over five seasons in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes (2023-25), Ottawa REDBLACKS (2021) and Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2019). The Syracuse product played 14 games for the Alouettes last season. He helped Montreal capture the Grey Cup in 2023.
Lawson most recently attended mini-camp with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. Lawson suited up in 49 games over four seasons at Louisiana Lafayette, registering 161 total tackles, 35 tackles for loss, 18 quarterback sacks, four passes defended, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Matthew played 20 games over two seasons in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals (2022-23) and Chicago Bears (2023), registering 20 total tackles and three passes defended. He was originally selected by the Cardinals in the seventh round, 244th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft and also spent time with the Baltimore Ravens (2023-24) and Dallas Cowboys. Matthew split his collegiate career between Georgia Southern, Samford and Valdosta State.
The team also announced they have released American running back Kevin Harris.
