The Orioles today announced that they have acquired right-handed pitcher THYAGO VIEIRA and minor league right-handed pitcher ANEURIS RODRIGUEZ from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher GARRETT STALLINGS. Vieira has not yet reported, while Rodriguez has been assigned to the Florida Complex League Orioles.
Vieira (pronounced chee-AH-goh vee-AIR-uh), 31, has one save and a 5.64 ERA (14 ER/22.1 IP) with 25 hits (6 HR), 13 walks (1 IBB), two hit batters, and 25 strikeouts in 16 games with Milwaukee this season. The 16 appearances tie his career high set with the Chicago White Sox in 2018. He’s appeared in 41 career MLB games between the Brewers, White Sox, and Seattle Mariners since 2017. Vieira is one of five Brazilians to play in an MLB game and will become the first to play for the Orioles in franchise history. He was originally signed as an International Free Agent by the Mariners on September 21, 2010 out of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Rodriguez, 19, has made three appearances (one start) for the Arizona Complex League Brewers this season while posting a 3.68 ERA (3 ER/7.1 IP), seven hits, six total runs, four walks, one hit batter, and 15 strikeouts. This year is his first pitching in the United States after spending his first two professional seasons in the Dominican Summer League. He was signed by Milwaukee as an International Free Agent out of San Juan De La Maguana, Dominican Republic on March 22, 2022.
Stallings, 26, was a non-roster invitee to MLB Spring Training in 2024 and had spent the entire year with Triple-A Norfolk, going 0-1 with a 5.67 ERA (17 ER/27.0 IP) and 31 hits (3 HR), 20 total runs, 13 walks, one hit batter, and 25 strikeouts in 11 games (four starts) with the Tides. The Orioles acquired him and minor league right-handed pitcher Jean Pinto from the Los Angeles Angels for infielder Jose Iglesias on December 2, 2020. Stallings was originally selected by the Angels in the fifth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Tennessee.
