COPENHAGEN – Danes spent more on online casino games than on lotteries for the first time in 2025, marking a major shift in the country’s gambling habits, according to new figures from the Danish Gambling Authority’s annual report The Gambling Market in Numbers 2025.

Online casino generated DKK 4.3 billion in gross gaming revenue last year, making it the largest gambling segment in Denmark. Lottery products — including Lotto, class lotteries and scratch cards — followed with DKK 3.5 billion. Lotteries had held the top position since the partial liberalization of Denmark’s gambling market in 2012.

The report also shows continued growth in digital gambling. Seventy‑three percent of all gambling activity in Denmark took place online in 2025, up from 70 percent the previous year.

The 2025 report includes data on land‑based bingo for the first time, following its liberalization on Jan. 1.

This year’s publication also reflects a change in how gross gaming revenue is calculated. The Gambling Authority adjusted GGR figures to align with Denmark’s GDP development at 2026 levels, following the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ December 2025 Economic Review. The new method brings the Authority in line with the broader regulatory approach used across the Ministry of Taxation and Economic Growth, and may result in differences compared with previous reports.
