Oakland A’s select RHP Bielak from Las Vegas; option LHP Basso to Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s selected right-handed pitcher Brandon Bielak from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned left-handed pitcher Brady Basso to Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Bielak joins the A’s for the second time this year as he was previously with the club from May 16 to 24 after being acquired from Houston for cash considerations. He had a win and a 3.18 ERA in three relief outings with the A’s after making 10 appearances with Houston. The 28-year-old right-hander is 1-0 with a 5.09 ERA and .901 opponents OPS in 13 games overall. Bielak was 3-3 with a 6.08 ERA and .841 opponents OPS in 16 games, including 13 starts, with Las Vegas. He was 2-0 with a 2.89 ERA over his last five games, including three starts.

Basso was recalled on Thursday for his fourth stint with the A’s and tossed 6.0 scoreless innings in a start and no decision against Detroit yesterday. He is 0-0 with a 1.93 ERA in four appearances overall with the A’s. Basso has also made six starts for Double-A Midland and has 16 appearances, including 12 starts, with Las Vegas. He has combined for a 5-4 record, a 4.55 ERA and .781 opponents OPS in 22 games, including 18 starts, overall in the minors.
