RHP Klein and INF Alvarez Optioned to Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s reinstated designated hitter Brent Rooker from the paternity list and selected right-handed pitcher Grant Holman from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. The A’s also optioned right-handed pitcher Will Klein and infielder Armando Alvarez to Las Vegas.

Rooker was placed on the paternity list on Wednesday and is batting .293 with 29 home runs, 83 RBI and a .950 OPS in 105 games. He ranks sixth in the majors in slugging (.583), seventh in OPS (.950), ninth in home runs (29) and 11th in RBI (83).

Holman began the season at Double-A Midland and did not allow a run in 17 games and 19.1 innings before he was promoted to Las Vegas June 4. He compiled a 0.92 ERA in 23 games with the Aviators and is 4-0 with nine saves, a 0.55 ERA and .480 opponents OPS in 40 relief appearances overall. The 24-year-old right-hander struck out 54 batters in 48.2 innings and walked 22 while holding the opposition to a .154 batting average. Holman was the A’s sixth round selection in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft and is 5-8 with 12 saves and a 3.19 ERA in 92 career appearances, including 18 starts, in four professional seasons.

Klein was acquired from Kansas City on July 30 with Mason Barnett and Jared Dickey for Lucas Erceg and pitched three times for the A’s, allowing five runs on two hits and four walks in 1.2 innings. He has an 11.05 ERA in eight big league appearances overall this year and also went 2-1 with nine saves and a 3.58 ERA in 34 games for Triple-A Omaha.

Alvarez was recalled on Wednesday when Brown went on the PL and went 1-for-3 in two games at New York (NL). He is 8-for-29 (.276) with two walks and two RBI in 10 games overall with the A’s and is also batting .306 with 16 doubles, a triple, 14 home runs, 47 RBI and a .982 OPS in 62 games with Las Vegas.
