Oakland A’s reinstate C/1B Tyler Soderstrom from the IL; option INF Armando Alvarez

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s reinstated catcher/first baseman Tyler Soderstrom from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Armando Alvarez to Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Soderstrom was placed on the injured list on July 11, retroactive to July 10, with a left wrist bone bruise. He began the season in Triple-A before joining the A’s on May 8 and played in 49 games, hitting .219 with seven home runs, 20 RBI, and a .711 OPS in 166 plate appearances before his injury. The left-handed hitter was placed on a rehab assignment with Las Vegas and batted .450 (9-for-20) with three home runs, eight RBI, four strikeouts and four walks in six games.

Alvarez was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas Aug. 27 for his fourth stint with the A’s and went 1-for-7 in five games, including two starts, after his return. He was previously with the team from June 22-July 16, Aug. 7-9 and Aug. 14-16, playing in seven games during his first stint, one in his second stay and two in his last.
