NEW YORK New York City FC has officially acquired Brazilian center back Raul Gustavo from Hungarian champions Ferencvárosi TC, signing him to a contract through 2027, with club options for 2028 and 2029. The 26-year-old defender will join the squad pending receipt of his P-1 Visa.

Defensive Reinforcement with European Pedigree

Gustavo made 24 appearances and scored two goals across all competitions last season for Ferencváros, helping the club secure the Nemzeti Bajnokság I title and compete in the UEFA Europa League. Known for his left-footed distribution, physicality, and composure under pressure, Gustavo adds depth and versatility to NYCFC’s backline.

“Raul is a proven defender with European experience and a strong understanding of our footballing philosophy,” said Sporting Director David Lee. “His familiarity with City Football Group and his previous work with Pascal at Ferencváros will help him integrate quickly. We’re confident Raul will be a key contributor as we push toward the postseason.”

Career Journey: Brazil to Europe to MLS

Gustavo began his professional career with S.C. Corinthians Paulista, where he rose through the academy ranks and logged 53 appearances, six goals, and three assists across domestic and continental competitions, including the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana.

In 2023, he spent time on loan with CFG affiliate Esporte Clube Bahia, featuring in 18 matches and further solidifying his reputation as a reliable defender.

“Joining New York City FC is a dream come true,” said Raul Gustavo. “I’m proud to be part of a club with big ambitions and a passionate fanbase. I look forward to helping the team stay strong defensively and competing at the highest level in MLS.”
