RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina bettors wagered $520,469,336 on sports in August 2026, according to a monthly revenue report released by the North Carolina State Lottery Commission.
The figures, submitted by licensed interactive sports betting operators, show players won $467,747,207 during the month.
Under state law, sportsbook revenue is taxed at 23% of gross wagering revenue, defined as the total amount of sports wagers — including bonuses and promotional credits — minus winnings paid out before any deductions for expenses, fees or taxes.
Gross wagering revenue for August totaled $48,990,555, generating an estimated $11,229,280 in tax proceeds for the state. The North Carolina Department of Revenue collects these funds, which contribute to the state’s broader gaming‑related tax base.
The August report continues North Carolina’s streak of monthly handles exceeding $500 million, underscoring sustained growth in the state’s regulated sports betting market since its launch in 2024.
