NHL Morning Skate – Oct. 10, 2026

* One of the NHL’s highest-scoring teams skated to another win as the Kraken found the back of the net six times (again) thanks to their depth scoring to start 2026-27.

* The Blue Jackets were one of three other teams to collect two points Friday night as Cam Talbot made his franchise debut and achieved an NHL first in the process.

* The weekend of Canadian Thanksgiving begins with a 14-game slate, including a four-pack on Rogers Saturday Night Hockey on Sportsnet featuring the Canadiens, Senators, Maple Leafs and Flames.

KRAKEN CONTINUE COLLECT HIGH-SCORING WINS IN 2026-27

Ben Meyers (1-2—3) and Frederick Gaudreau (2-0—2) collected all their points in a four-goal second period as the Kraken scored six goals for the third time in five games to start the season and earned their first victory against the Red Wings since Oct. 24, 2023. Seattle’s three outings with six or more goals are tied with Colorado for the most among all teams in 2026-27.

* Meyers – who matched the franchise record for points in a period – and Gaudreau – who tied the franchise record for goals in a period – propelled a Kraken offense to a franchise-best 21 goals through the first five games of a season (next closest: 20 in 2024-25).

* Meyers was also the 12th different Kraken player with a goal in 2026-27 – tied with the Bruins, Mammoth and Avalanche for the second most among all teams, behind the Canucks (13).

AROUND THE RINKS: BLUE JACKETS, DUCKS, CAPITALS EARN WINS
A four-game Friday also saw the Blue Jackets, Ducks and Capitals each earn two points:

* Zach Werenski (0-1—1) helped the Blue Jackets build a 2-0 lead before Evgeni Malkin (1-0—1) helped the Penguins draw even and extend the game beyond regulation, where Cam Talbot denied all three Pittsburgh skaters in the shootout to earn a victory in his franchise debut. The 39-year-old became the first goaltender in NHL history to earn a win with nine franchises.

* Beckett Sennecke (0-2—2) extended his season-opening point streak to four games and tied the second-longest run in Ducks history behind Kevin Shattenkirk (5 GP in 2021-22) and Corey Perry (5 GP in 2014-15). Sennecke (20 years, 254 days) also became the youngest forward to record a season-opening point streak of four-plus games since Elias Pettersson (5 GP in 2018-19 at 19 years old). Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer posted a six-game run last season as an 18-year-old.

* Logan Thompson stopped 21 of 22 shots to help the Capitals improve to 3-0-0 against Metropolitan Division foes this season. Thompson started a campaign on a three-game win streak for the second time in his Capitals career (also 7 GP in 2024-25) and became the second Washington goaltender with multiple season-opening runs of that length alongside Jim Carey (4 GP in 1995-96 & 1994-95).

Friday’s edition of #NHLStats: Live Updates featured notes on all eight teams in action, with a spotlight on Jets forward Kyle Connor, who scored while skating in his 700th career game. Connor’s six tallies are tied with Evan Bouchard for the most among all skaters this season.

SPORTSNET SATURDAY DELIVERS SIX NATIONAL CANADIAN GAMES
Fans can enjoy a full slate of hockey on the Saturday of Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend with Sportsnet delivering six national games featuring Canadian teams spanning nine hours, including the Oilers and Canucks on the road in matinee contests and a four-pack of games as part of Rogers Saturday Night Hockey on Sportsnet. More on each game below.

Canucks at Devils (3:30 p.m. ET)

The Canucks, a franchise that was home to one of the great brother duos of all time in Daniel and Henrik Sedin (still with the organization as co-presidents of hockey operations) visit the Devils, who have an accomplished sibling tandem of their own in “Golden Goal” overtime hero Jack Hughes and his brother, defenseman Luke. On Oct. 1, Luke (game-tying goal) and Jack (overtime winner) both scored in the same game to help the Devils earn their first win of the season. New Jersey owns an 8-1-0 all-time record when both Hughes brothers score in the same game.

Oilers at Sharks (4 p.m. ET)

The high-scoring Oilers visit the Sharks in what could be a meeting between two of last season’s top scorers, reigning Art Ross Trophy winner Connor McDavid and Sharks single-season record holder Macklin Celebrini. Celebrini has missed San Jose’s last two games and is listed as day-to-day. Darnell Nurse is also set to face his former team for the first time since being traded to the Sharks this past summer. Nurse skated in 798 career regular-season games with Edmonton – Kevin Lowe (1,037 GP) is the only defenseman to appear in more with the franchise. Nurse also ranks in the top five on the franchise’s all-time list among defensemen for goals (88; 2nd), assists (236; 5th) and points (324; 5th).

Maple Leafs at Avalanche (7 p.m. ET)
There will be plenty of NHL pedigree on display with a Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy winner on each side (Nathan MacKinnon & Auston Matthews). Maple Leafs rookie Gavin McKenna (1-2—3 in 5 GP) will look to record a point for a third straight game as one of three No. 1 NHL Draft picks in the contest alongside MacKinnon and Matthews. McKenna also hopes a strong season will have him in the running for rookie of the year – there will be four Calder Trophy winners on the ice in this contest: MacKinnon, Matthews, Gabriel Landeskog and Cale Makar.

Red Wings at Canadiens (7 p.m. ET)

Two of the top young defensemen in the game go head-to-head with Detroit’s Moritz Seider (age 25) and Montreal’s Lane Hutson (age 22) lining up on opposite sides. Seider (39-203—242 in 414 GP) already ranks fourth all-time in points among German defensemen (97 points back of Christian Ehrhoff for first on the list) with all players ahead of him appearing in 300-plus more games than Seider has to date. Hutson (18-132—150 in 170 GP) was the seventh-fastest defenseman in NHL history to 150 points when he reached the benchmark Oct. 6 (169 GP). Hutson (2024-25) and Seider (2021-22) are also former Calder Trophy winners.

Predators at Senators (7 p.m. ET)

Predators forward Steven Stamkos (3-3—6 in 4 GP) can extend his season-opening point streak to five games for the fourth time in his career (11 GP in 2017-18, 8 GP in 2012-13 & 5 GP in 2022-23) in the same week he pulled ahead of Jarome Iginla and Joe Sakic on the NHL’s all-time goals list. The Senators (3-1-0, 6 points) are coming off a victory in their home opener (2-1 W vs. PHI Oct. 8) and will look to win at least four of their first five games of a season for the first time since 2014-15.

Ducks at Flames (10 p.m. ET)

The memorable 2024 NHL Draft at Sphere Las Vegas will be on display in Sportsnet’s closing contest with potentially three first-round picks from that class in action: Anaheim’s Beckett Sennecke (3rd overall) as well as Calgary defenseman Zayne Parekh (9th overall) and forward Matvei Gridin (28th overall). Sennecke, who had a memorable moment when he was shocked to be selected third overall, has produced for Anaheim – he finished last season as the rookie goals leader (23; tied) and is among the team’s top scorers to start 2026-27 (3-3—6 in 4 GP).
